In these hard times, who can resist a half-price sale on Broadway tickets? No one. Everybody likes more bang for the buck. So, how about 2-for-1? That’s buy one, get one free!

Broadway Week is January 22-February 7, 2013. If you go to theaters, there are no service charges (except that dastardly "facilities fee"); and no standing in lines in frigid or rainy weather. Just belly up to the box office or, if you prefer, the nearest phone or computer. You'll even be able to afford to eat out before or after the show.

There are several ways to purchase the “2-4-1” promo. Any way you choose, use this code: BWAYWEEK. You can purchase at the box offices of 99 percent of the participating theatres; online at or by calling Telecharge (212) 239-6200 [outside NYC, (800) 432-7250] or online at www.NYCGO.com or via Ticketmaster (877) 250-2929. On calls and websites, service charges – a sky-high $8 per ticket and an additional $2.75 per order handling charge – will typically apply.

Remember, with Broadway’s cockamamie show schedules, to check your tickets to make sure you arrive on time. Some shows start at 8 P.M., some at 7:30, some at 7, depending on the day of the week.

If you purchase online at NYCGO.com, you qualify for a seat location upgrade (from the back and sides of the orchestra and mezzanine) for an additional $20 [code BWAYUP]. In addition, for out-of-towners or anyone needing a break from home, there’s an offer of 25 percent off the city’s top hotels.

Hungry? Restaurant Week deals abound January 14-February 8, with $25 lunches and $38 dinners at 325 participating restaurants Uptown, Midtown, Theatre District, Downtown, East Side, West Side. Other deals include 65 percent savings on sightseeing attractions.

If you go to the NYCGO (NYC Official Guide) website, you’ll find all the Broadway Week shows. [Mary Poppins, for one, is offering the 2-4-1 for select dates through its March 3rd closing; Code TMN241. Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is offering a Me+3 four-pack] You can also register to win a trip for two on the May 12 voyage of the Norwegian Breakaway.

Kids' Night on Broadway

The Broadway League, The New York Times and NYC & Company will be kicking off the 17th annual Kids' Night on Broadway February 25 - March 3, 2012. Tickets to participating shows are now available. Here’s the deal: kids ages 6-18 can see listed Broadway and select Off-Broadway shows for free when accompanied by a full-paying adult. These special tickets include pre-theater party, theater district restaurant and parking discounts, special souvenir Playbill, study guides, and more.

The dining deal is that participating restaurants are offering a free entrée for each child accompanied by an adult who purchases a regularly-priced entrée. Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan, co-host’s of ABC/Disney’s Emmy-winning “Live with Kelly and Michael” are the National Ambassadors for Kid’s Night.

“Broadway has always been magical to me,” says Ripa in a statement, “and it was a joy to share that magic with my kids. Michael and I have huge respect for Broadway performers. We’re thrilled and honored to be part of a program that exposes children to theater.”
